How does a pulling and cooling unit work?
The main way to cool a web is to use chill rolls. Depending on the desired cooling capacity, several chill rolls are passed through one after the other. In order to achieve an effective cooling effect, it is also necessary to achieve maximum wrapping of the web around the chill rolls. To ensure a uniform cooling effect over the entire width of the web, the chill rolls are usually designed as double shells with multiple and/or counter-rotating guide spirals. Alternatively, chill rolls can be manufactured in a single shell design. The main cooling medium used is cooling water, which is passed through the roll at low pressure. The water can be supplied and recirculated on one or both sides. Depending on the application, different types of coatings are used, such as chrome, nickel, rubber, non-stick, etc., or simply uncoated.
The wrap angle influences the cooling effect of a chill roll and the traction effect of a traction roll. In principle, a maximum wrap angle must also be achieved with traction rollers. To increase the traction effect, traction rollers are usually rubberised. Depending on the application, there is a wide range of rubber types with different properties.
What are the features of the pulling unit and the cooling unit?
The design of pull units and cooling units varies according to the application. They can be manufactured in various sizes and complexities to suit customer requirements. Depending on the required cooling capacity, the diameter and structure of the cooling rollers can be adapted to meet the necessary requirements. In principle, the maximum contact area between the web material and the cooling roller must be achieved in order to achieve an efficient cooling effect. If necessary, local conditions can also be taken into account in the arrangement of the chill rolls.
In the case of pure pull units, the arrangement of the rolls can be selected according to the material properties and process requirements. In the case of single pull rolls, a maximum wrap must be achieved. An S wrap is a functional roller arrangement when two draw rollers are used. The pulling and holding effect can be increased by using adjustable pressure rollers. In addition, the pulling effect can be optimised by selecting different types of rubber linings. Special rubber linings can also be used to provide different levels of resistance to, for example, acids and alkalis.
Our pulling and cooling systems can also be easily integrated into existing production lines.
In addition to the basic functions, pulling and cooling units offer additional features that ensure precise material guidance and system safety. Precise material guidance through the system is critical to the quality and efficiency of the process. Mechanisms are integrated into both the pulling and cooling units to ensure that the material is guided reliably and accurately. Integrated monitoring systems also play an important role in the pulling and cooling units. These systems continuously monitor various parameters, such as temperature, speed and pressure, to ensure that the system is working properly and to detect potential problems at an early stage. This not only ensures the safety of the plant, but also enables efficient operational management, as operators can react to deviations in time to minimise downtime and optimise product quality.
In which sectors are they used?
Pulling and cooling units are used in a wide variety of industries, particularly where web-like materials are being processed. Some of the main industries in which they are used are as follows:
In the textile industry, cooling units are used to bring textiles to the desired temperature, for example after drying in dyeing or printing processes.
In the plastics and paper industries, pulling and cooling units are used to cool sheet materials such as films after thermal processes such as laminating, coating or drying. This is particularly important to ensure the quality of plastic products and to control their thermal properties.
Advantages of Pulling and cooling units
Pulling and cooling units offer a number of advantages that can improve the production process in a variety of ways. One important benefit is the efficient contact cooling that the web receives directly on contact with the chill rolls. The material is cooled quickly and evenly by direct contact with the chill rolls. This results in consistent quality of the finished material and reduced production times. As a result, the material is already at the desired temperature in the subsequent process.
The desired cooling temperature of the chill rolls can be precisely adjusted. This allows the material to be brought to the correct temperature to suit your requirements. This allows the material to be tailored to specific requirements and improves product quality. Pulling and cooling units are extremely versatile and suitable for a wide range of materials and applications. They can be easily integrated into different production environments and offer flexibility when processing different materials.
Pulling and cooling units can be easily combined with other systems and integrated into existing production lines. As a result, they can be seamlessly integrated into production processes and offer additional opportunities to optimise production processes.
