Reduce material defects with inspection machines
Do you want to provide your customers with the highest quality materials? Then you can’t do without fabric inspection machines. These machines inspect and test web materials such as woven fabrics, technical textiles, films, papers, nonwovens and various other materials. Their versatility makes them an indispensable tool for various industries. Fabric inspection machines can be used to thoroughly inspect a wide range of materials for defects. At the same time, they can be used for customised packaging and/or wrapping. These features make them indispensable in many manufacturing companies and in a wide range of industries.
Do you have special requirements for the inspection of your materials? Then please contact us. We will work with you to develop a concept that is tailored to your existing systems. Please contact us without obligation and let us advise you on our fabric inspection systems.
Overview
How does a inspection machine work?
The material to be inspected is usually obtained from a previous production step. The aim is to visually inspect printed, laminated, coloured or impregnated materials with a view to their future use.
An integrated feed unit takes the material from either a roll or a stack and feeds it over the blade surface.
After the material has been visually inspected, a optional finishing and/or packaging process takes place. In this way, an inspection of the goods is carried out to ensure consistent quality before dispatch to the customer. Alternatively, inspection can take place prior to complex and costly downstream processes. Any quality changes in intermediate processes can be identified at an early stage. Areas of material or entire batches with poor quality characteristics can be rejected before further processing.
The inspection area is the most important part of the machine. Depending on the material properties to be inspected, the web can be illuminated by dimmable LED lights in the inspection area. This allows defects or quality features to be fully detected or checked. A wide range of energy-saving LED light sources and arrangements are used to provide the required illumination. In addition to one-sided and/or two-sided incident light, we also offer a wide range of transmitted light options. The web materials can be illuminated and backlit from a variety of directions to suit the customer’s requirements, allowing you to fully visualise the goods.
What are the features of a inspection machine?
Fabric inspection can either be integrated into a production line or as a stand-alone process in a winding system.
Depending on the application of the material, inspection bridges or angled inspection tables are used. Large format floor coverings, for example, are inspected in a horizontal position with a view from above, which corresponds to their final use. Various materials are inspected on angled inspection tables. An important feature here is the ergonomic and optionally adjustable display surfaces. This allows the operator to sit or stand in front of the machine in a relaxed, ergonomic position during visual inspection.
An important component of a fabric inspection machine is the length measuring system. This type of measuring system is essential for determining the set length specifications for the manufacturing process. Depending on the material, length measurement can be non-contact or by means of a travelling metre counter. If a calibrated length measurement is required, further machine design measures are necessary and can be implemented at the customer’s request.
If high machine speeds are required, an alternative to visual inspection by the human eye must be considered, in which case we can integrate sensor systems into our systems to monitor and control the inspection process.
Thanks to the use of special camera systems, our machines work more precisely and faster than the human eye. Learning and specifiable cameras enable the detection of quality defects in the material, including complete documentation. This means that defects can be recorded immediately, making the goods inspection much more efficient for you. We can also integrate a wide range of slitting systems into our rewinding and fabric inspection systems on request. The cutting blades can be manually moved to the desired width setting and locked in place. In addition to edge trimming, multi-panel cuts are therefore possible in the desired widths. A downstream width stretching system can also prevent the cut edges from overlapping.
Various types of cutting systems for the cross-section can be installed in parallel. In addition to simple manual cross-cutting options, automated solutions can also be realised. This ensures customisation to the desired length dimensions. Defects can also be cut out and ejected if required.
We therefore offer you great flexibility with regard to the trimming of your material.
In which industries are inspection machines used?
Fabric inspection is used in industries where the material has undergone process steps that change its appearance, feel or properties. Possible process steps that require subsequent fabric inspection include printing, laminating, dyeing, impregnating and various types of coating.
These process steps can be found, for example, in the textile, paper, film and nonwovens industries. Quality-limiting features that are checked during a fabric inspection include various surface defects, holes, tear patterns, bubbles, flaws, thickness variations and other features.
Fabric inspection machines are also used in various other industries. These include the food, automotive and plastics industries.
The additional functions of a inspection machine
On request, we can equip your fabric inspection machine with various additional functions. One possible function is web tension control. This ensures a constant web tension throughout the entire system. Especially with sensitive materials, web breaks and elastic and plastic material changes can be avoided. This must be taken into account especially during the unwinding and winding process in order to achieve a consistent winding quality.
Another additional function is the use of a spreader system. This can be used both before an optional slitting system and before the winding process. The aim is to achieve crease-free web guidance at the desired position.
If a straight edge winding process is required, edge control is necessary. Alternatively, or in addition, an edge-controlled material infeed can be implemented in the slitting process. Depending on the system selected, the web can be aligned to an edge or to the centre of the material.
Seamless integration of our fabric inspection systems into existing systems is of particular importance to us. Of course, this is also possible with our fabric inspection systems. For example, they can be perfectly positioned between a customer’s existing unwind and rewind system.
We can also easily link our inspection systems to existing machinery such as cutting, printing or packaging machines.
Advantages of a inspection machine
A fabric inspection machine from us has many advantages for you. One major benefit is the increase in productivity with minimal effort. By integrating the latest sensor technology, we make it possible to check the material for defects quickly and efficiently. The time required is greatly reduced and the product quality is improved. By using our system, you can guarantee your customers higher product quality and delivery reliability. In addition, the minimisation of scrap material results in significant material savings, which makes for a much more economical way of working.
